Welcome to Running Joyfully - a run coaching collective on a mission to help athletes reach their potential and find the best, most joyful version of themselves through running.
Founded in 2015 by former pro runner and coach Kaitlin Goodman, Running Joyfully offers 1:1 personal run coaching and individualized training programs that help you take your running to the next level. Our programs are designed to help you reach new personal bests in a way that is motivating, fulfilling, and most importantly, joyful!
Hi there - I’m Head Coach Kaitlin Goodman and I’ve been coaching runners at Running Joyfully for 10 years (we’re celebrating our 10th birthday this year!).
In 2023, Running Joyfully expanded and I welcomed an amazing crew of running coaches to our team — each of these women not only embody the Running Joyfully mindset and core values, but also bring extensive running and coaching backgrounds, diverse experiences, and specific expertise in mental skills training and injury prevention. Our all-female coaching staff includes former pro runners Stephanie Garcia Cichosz and Katie Newton, Physical Therapist Dr. Kacy Seynders, and stellar coaches Danielle Encizo, Sarah Roberts, Amy Sanchez, and Jen Serna. I’m so excited to have them on board!
Our online running coaches support runners of all ages, levels, and abilities with evidence-based training and individualized programs. We coach Olympic Trials marathoners, first-time marathoners, athletes aiming for Boston Qualifiers, masters runners, and runners chasing sub-3:00, sub-4:00, sub-5:00, and sub-6:00 marathons. Many of our coaches are mothers and we love working with pregnant and postpartum runners, helping running be a joyful part of their motherhood experience. No matter your experience, ability, or running background, we love helping runners discover their potential!
As coaches, we not only support our athletes in chasing personal bests and breakthrough races, but we’re also there for our athletes’ big life moments - training through pregnancy (and loss); the first run postpartum; running through weddings, breakups, big moves, and job changes; the first marathon competing as a non-binary athlete. Being there for our athletes with wholehearted support and human-first coaching is at the core of who we are at Running Joyfully.

At Running Joyfully, we help you find joy on the run. We are a community of dedicated, passionate runners with big goals, and our team consists of runners of all abilities, from those just getting started to those trying to qualify for Boston to those training for the Olympic Trials! But no matter your ability, our goal is the same: to help you find community & connection and support you in incorporating training into your life, with the understanding that you have a job, a personal life/family, and interests outside of running ;) Through online run coaching, we work with our athletes to craft an individualized plan that works best for YOUR life and YOUR big goals, so that you can run joyfully toward them :)

1:1 Personal Run Coaching is our signature offering and we offer two high-touch coaching programs:
PLUS Coaching is our most popular program and includes an individualized training program, unlimited email communication with your coach, monthly office hours, weekly training feedback, and quarterly 30-minute check-in calls with your coach.
PRO Coaching is our highest level of support and includes an individualized training program, unlimited email communication with your coach, monthly office hours, 2x/week training feedback (great for accountability!), and monthly 30-minute check-in calls with your coach.
Communication is essential to our run coaching programs. We believe in supportive coach-athlete relationships that are built on trust, communication, and care. All of our programs are holistic, individualized, and designed specifically for you!

An Initial Fitness Assessment
Via an athlete profile and in-depth questionnaire, our coaches learn about your current fitness, athletic history, past running experience, and your goals. This assessment helps us design a plan specifically for YOU and YOUR needs as an athlete.
An Individualized, Custom Training Plan
We deliver your training via Final Surge, a free, easy-to-use online training platform and app (that syncs with your GPS watch!). Every 1-2 weeks, your coach sends you a personalized training schedule built just for you. Your plan is tailored based on your desired days of the week to run and your paces/current fitness. No two plans look alike - your individualized plan is designed to fit YOUR lifestyle and help you reach YOUR goals. Because things can come up - work craziness, illness, unexpected events, kiddo craziness - we might need to make adjustments, and we’re here to support you with that with unlimited schedule modifications and options for cross-training.
High-Touch Personal Coaching
Online run coaching is about SO much more than just the training plan! We provide regular and timely in-depth comments on your workouts to give you the detailed feedback and support you need as you work toward your goals.
Unlimited email and Final Surge access to your coach
Monthly office hours with your coach, as well as with Head Coach Kaitlin, to chat live, answer questions, and get additional feedback and support
Monthly or quarterly 30 minute one-on-one phone consultations with your coach
Teammates, Community, and Connection
Access to a private online community to connect with team members to ask questions/get feedback & support
Community Chats - private, small discussion groups with teammates on a similar running journey
Team meet-ups at races and in-person coaching support - for 2024, we had coaches on site at the Houston Marathon, Olympic Trials Marathon, Boston Marathon, Eugene Marathon, Chicago Marathon, NYC Marathon, and California International Marathon. We tentatively are planning for 2025 in-person coaching support at Houston, Boston, Eugene, Chicago, NYC, and CIM - with more to come as we finalize plans!

Education
Monthly Team Training Talks - live educational Zoom calls with Coach Kaitlin where we dive deep on topics like marathon fueling, recovery, and more! You’ll hear from Coach Kaitlin, our assistant coaches, and expert guest speakers. You also have access to a large library of previously recorded Training Talks to watch and learn from.
Pre-Race Webinars to help you run your best Houston Marathon, Boston Marathon, Chicago Marathon, NYC Marathon, and California International Marathon.
Strength Training
All of our run coaching programs include The Fundamentals, our running-specific strength program to help you be a stronger, more durable runner and prevent injuries. A healthy runner is a happy runner!
We also offer add-on strength training programs, including our 12-week Strength for Performance program, Strength for Masters Runners program, and Custom Strength Training with our resident strength expert, Coach Kacy, PT, DPT.
