The past year has been an eventful one for me, full of lots of life changes. I began this year full of hope and excitement but have encountered my fair share of challenges in 2013. Still, I've been blessed in many ways these past 12 months, so I'm going to recap them here and celebrate the good times and good people who helped get me through 2013.
Starting in January...
Avi and I kicked off the New Year together in Thailand. We ate delicious street food, swam under a waterfall, rode elephants, and oh yeah, GOT ENGAGED! It was the most memorable of trips and one that will forever hold a special place in my heart.
The trip was cut abruptly short by the news of my grandmother's stroke. I made it home in time to say goodbye; but what does "in time" really mean? There wasn't enough time... she wasn't supposed to go yet. We weren't supposed to be saying goodbye, we were supposed to be planning my wedding together.
I thought we had more time, I wanted more time, I still want more time. Losing Gram has been the hardest thing I've ever faced... I don't know what more to say than that I miss her, every day.
February
In February I settled into my new home -- snowy, cold Cleveland, Ohio! A big change for this California girl, I had to learn to run in the elements. I discovered that with double layers, mittens (better than gloves!), and a balaclava, you survive all but the worst of snowstorms, and that you can indeed do a tempo run on a treadmill! (not preferred, but better than icy roads!)
I was so lucky to quickly make friends in Cleveland - the Northeast Ohio running community welcomed me with open arms and I soon had a social network and running buddies who made me feel right at home. I love these fast, inspiring women!
March
I ventured back to California in March for Gram's memorial service and to bring my car out to Ohio. My dear old dad was kind enough to make the road trip with me from California to Cleveland. We powered through 10 states in 5 days, listening to many "This American Life" podcasts, talking running, and eating way too many Subway sandwiches. 2500 miles later, my trusty little Subaru and I arrived in Cleveland.
One of the highlights of the cross-country trip - the scenic running! I'll leave you with these "on the run" shots... and stay tuned for the April-May-June recap later this week!
